Revision Rate

Balloon dilation versus functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS)

The REMODEL randomized controlled trial, which compared balloon dilation and FESS, reported no statistically significant difference in revision rates between balloon dilation and FESS.

Revision surgery rate is an important measure of durability for both balloon dilation and FESS. Overall, studies of hybrid and standalone balloon dilation report revision rates in line with the rates reported in studies focused on functional endoscopic sinus surgery.
Standalone balloon dilation procedures trend toward the low side of the range for FESS.
